This is a fine Roman bronze hair pin with a gold amphora shaped top; above which is a purple carnelian; though it might possibly be a purple glass terminal. The bronze metal is very good and the entire piece is intact. These are mentioned in Ruseva-Slokoska as being found in both European and Near East contexts from the 1st to the 3rd century. This one was found in Eastern Europe. 111mm long. 1st-3rd century.
