Interesting scarab mounted in delicate gold frame Specialist scarab collectors will note that the back of this scarab is unusual. That's because it is not Egyptian, but Phoenician. The delicate gold mounting, the remnants of a swivel ring, is also typically Phoenician. The way it is mounted however suggests it wasn't actually iused for sealing purposes. The underside is cut with a figure of a sqatting Amun behind whom a protective Ureaus holding a branch, all upon a Neb sign. The scarab appears to be slightly chipped and indeed that may be one reason it was put into a frame. 14mm long. Mid-late 1st millennium BC £695
