The Dating and Arrangement of the Undated Coins of Rome, A.D.98-148
by Philip V Hill Spink and Son 1970 Hardcover, dust jacket, Unmarked - almost as new. 212 pages, 2 plates of coin photos. An excellent reference for the collector of Roman coinage which did not use tribunician dates. During the half-century between the death of Nerva and the 11th year of Antoninus Pius in 148 AD, the direct method of dating a coin by the tribunician reckoning of the emperor, was rarely used, except as a title rather than a date. In this book, the author's PhD thesis, various criteria, portraiture and the historical events of the reigns of Trajan, Hadrian and Antoninus Pius in an attempt to assign exact dates to each issue. In Recent years, some of his findings have been questioned by scholars, but his work still remains the standard reference of undated coinage of the series. From my own library as I no longer collect coins.
