A large, imposing Egyptian polychrome painted anthropoid wooden sarcophagus fragment with applied gesso, depicting the male deceased with crimson body, green collar and cream tunic, with one hand held to his chest, the other outstretched, seated on a stool with lattice bracing, possibly with the end of his name in a single hieroglyph reading, 'Wa' and below, 'Osiris'. 550mm / 22inches Late Period, after 600 B.C. From my own collection. Acquired from Bonhams. See last photo for the text. Provenance: Ex Hans Henningsen collection, Copenhagen, 1950
