A really very attractive Elamite type very early bronze axe head, of lovely flowing shape and with a wonderfully deep and glossy dark green and almost black patina. If you want just one such type in your collection, this one would fit the bill pretty well I think. It is almost identical to the one in the Metropolitan museum and shown in Muscarella's book Bronze and Iron. See pp234-236. These have been found (some inscribed) at only three places, Susa and Tchoga Zanbil in Elam and at Chekka Sabz In Luristan. There is some small controversy about dating but generally accepted that they are 12th century BC. 100mm x 90mm North West Persia c 800 BC.
