This is a nicely mounted top portion of a marble funerary stele which has an interesting inscription in Greek above the image of a young man dressed in the himation. The inscription reads: 'Julianos, (son) of Eidaios, aged 17.' This is interesting because Julianos (Latin Julianus) is a Latin name, but Eidaios (= Idaios) a Greek one. Approx 178mm x 160mm x 60mm. (Height with stand is approx 200mm) Based on the style and especially the hairstyle of the figure it is 2nd century. Ex London collection formed in the 1970s. Said to have been found in Turkey. Can be seen here now.
