This is a really attractive and very wearable ancient Roman glass bead necklace. It comprises composite glass beads in a nice translucent yellow and blue glass strung on fine gold wire with good strudy gold hook and clasp. One can see the longitudinal creases in the gold wire indicating that it has been manufactured by the twist strip technique as indeed it should have! Whereas simple gold link Roman necklaces with just a few glass beads are quite common, ones with composite glass beads like these are actually fairly rarely seen. Intact and certainly sturdy enough to be worn. 43 cm long. Roman, circa 3rd century. From a collection in the States.
