This is one of the finest djed amulets I've ever had. In a black hardstone and very well made with good detailing: even the upper and lower parts of the back pillar are carefully bevelled. In the Old Kingdom the djed was associated with the chief god of Memphis, Ptah, who was called the "Noble Djed" but later it was either symbolic of the backbone of Osiris or perhaps representative of the type of tree Ositris' casket was made from. It meant "stability". 23 mm
