Römischer Fingerring aus einer Wiesbadener Privatsammlung in Form zweier Delphine,die durch einen nach unten gerichteten Dreizack getrennt sind, an dessem Ende sich ein stilisierter Lorbeerkranz befindet. Auf der Ringplatte selber befindet sich noch die Inschrift "Vivas". Original Bronze, 2. bis 3. Jhd. Bisher ist nur ein Ring mit ähnlichem Dekor bekannt, der im Rhein zwischen Köln und Neuss gefunden wurde und der aus Silber gefertigt war.

This fingerring is from a private collection Wiesbaden made like two dolphins, separated by a trident with a stylized laurel wreath on top. The bezel with the inscription ViVAS. Origin item in bronze, approx. 2-3. C. AD.  Worldwide are only existing 2 rings of this type, one in bronze and on in silver found between Cologne and Neuss.

Description: Roman gold ring in the form of two intertwined snakes facing opposite directions. The snakes' details, including the scales on their skin and their eyes, are delineated through small incisions. The snake motif was very common in Roman jewelry. It was thought to protect against the evil eye

Very nicely made.

Seems it's only made in silver by the fellow who makes these fine reproductions.

Das Schlangenmotiv findet man im gesamten römischen Reich in einer Vielzahl von Formen, besonders im Bereich des Schmucks (Armreifen, siehe Nr. 448), und Fingerringe, siehe auch Nr. 196. Die Schlange galt dort als Schutzgeist, der übel abwehren kann, besonders den "bösen Blick (Siehe hierzu Nr. 517).
