Someone asked me about this from eBay.
![]() There have been quite a few tablets offered for sale with labels in Arabic script attached to them. Some sellers say that these are "excavation labels".
![]() These are all quite poorly made fakes.
![]() I was interested to know what these scraps of writing actually said... With thanks from Daryl and also Rob: ![]() ![]() Seems they are little scraps cut out of Arab language newspapers. There are many to be seen online. These below from the CDLI database. ![]() ![]() Despite the marks on these looking nothing really like cuneiform , even specialist auction houses sell them.
![]() ![]() This tablet as well as the one below, clearly by the same hand are from "an important London W1 collection". How "important " is a collection containing such poorly made fakes? (The tablet below sold for £600!)
